The sizing description of a screw pin shackle is based upon the measured diameter of the shackle’s body, often called the Bail, which is the curved top section of the shackle. The threaded shackle pin itself will have a slightly larger diameter than the Shackle body. The shackle pin diameter is not the measured dimension used to describe the size of the shackle.
The Shackle body will be stamped with the Working Load Limit (WLL), which is represented in Tons or fractions of a Ton, depending upon the shackle size.
