Grade 5 Hex Head Cap Screws in are manufactured from medium carbon steel that has been quenched and tempered for strength. Grade 5 Cap Screws offer a balance of strength, ductility and economy and are commonly used in automotive and general maintenance applications. Hex Head Cap screws feature an integral washer face under the head for a smooth bearing surface and a chamfered thread at the tip to allow for ease of assembly. They can be used in a threaded hole or mated with a nut in a through bolting application. Grade 5 bolts are identified by a head marking with 3 radial lines evenly spaced 120 degrees apart. They meet the material specification SAE J429 Grade 5 and can be supplied either in a plain finish or with a variety of finishes and coatings.
