Bottom taps have a 1 to 1-1/2 thread chamfer and are used to make threads close to the bottom of a blind tapped hole. They are the final tap used to finish a hole after the initial threading work has been done using a Taper and/or Plug tap. Bottom taps should not be used to start holes due to high turning resistance and the likelihood of tap breakage.
